As a Small Child's Bird

by Bonnie Thomas
(Henderson, Nevada)

A Small Bird

A Small Bird

Years of in the spent
In what seems like an endless search
Poked and then prodded
As a small child's bird
Trapped
Within this cage on a perch
Just waiting, just waiting to be set free
Another test result, it does come in
Alas, in given - is some more of those tiny seeds
Nothing to fill this Eagles insides
In its larger than life's beak
Through the confining cages bars
In a wide eyed - it peaks
Just waiting
Just waiting to be set free
A small child's bird
Pushed to the corner and then covered with a sheet
A pause in those pokes and in those prods
Just waiting, just waiting
For the next one
Too meet
A small child's bird
Trapped in the corner
Covered with a sheet
In a wide eyed
It pecks at its feet
Until the numbness
It sets in
A small child's bird
Of until then
Now, in the taken to a grown up
Too mend
Its confining cage's bars
They are bent
This Eagles insides
They are in finally fed right
Its larger than life beak
It is heard
In its cries
And there is no more plucking of at its feet
With a full belly in thee
It sits on a shoulder
To look outside from a window's seat
As a small child's bird of no longer
In a tasting - of life's treats
No longer waiting
Just waiting
To be set free
A full belly within thee
It perches upon its numb feet
On a shoulder
Looking out from a window's seat
Tasting - in life's treats
For the test results
They came in
And now in a slowed down
Is this Multiple Sclerosis thief
Of a no longer as small child's bird
Pushed to the corner and covered with a sheet
This Eagles insides are filled to the brim with those new beliefs
That in the years to come, it will be in a journey of a relief
That time will no longer be of wasted in an endless search
As a small child's bird - Trapped in a cage on a perch
Just waiting, just waiting to be set free
