The Healthy Shop

Life in Spite of MS

You've found the Healthy Shop @ Life in Spite of MS. One of the things Cir and I do is take a few supplements in addition to our medications along with eating healthy plant-based foods. We don't take very many, mainly the following:

  • B 100 Complex
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D3
  • Vitamin K2
  • Turmeric
  • Multivitamin

We've occasionally taken probiotics, COQ10, Evening Primrose, and Red Yeast Rice. However, the main ones are those listed above. You can find them in the table below. B 100 Complex is very good for the nervous system and one that Cir started years ago, even before he found out he had multiple sclerosis.

Vitamin D3 is one that Cir's MS doctor recommended because most MSers don't get enough vitamin D especially during the winter months. Vitamin D deficiency is a common denominator in most autoimmune diseases. Unfortunately, doctors don't always connect the dots and tell their patients to take the supplement.

When you take vitamin D3, you also need to take K2 along with it so that the D3 can be absorbed and utilized by the body. Turmeric helps reduce inflammation in your body, so I actually mostly cook with turmeric on a daily basis. We haven't really taken it in capsule form for quite awhile. I use a little of it in almost every savory dish.

We normally take a multivitamin, just to make sure we're getting everything even in small amounts on a daily basis. We eat tons of fruit, tons of veggies because we eat plant-based. Most likely we get more than enough vitamins because of that. Some of you will probably wonder why we take extra vitamins when we eat healthier than most. We just do.
