Never Give Up!!

by Allyson P
(Idaho)

Hi, my name is Allyson and I am 26 years old. I was diagnosed with MS in April of 2011. Numbness in my legs is what first made me see a Dr. After a brain MRI, spinal tap, and a few other tests it was official. I have MS.

At first, I was really frustrated and somewhat angry. Then I woke up one morning and decided that in life, there are things I have control over and things that I don't have control over. I am focusing on what I do have control over.

I can choose to make good decisions for my health. I can choose to have a good attitude I can choose to get up and live my life to the fullest instead of feeling sorry for myself.

I feel lucky to have such a great family and so many friends that are supportive and loving. Even though it is hard managing my symptoms which are fatigue, numbness/weakness in my legs, vision problems, balance issues, and other things, I have to remember that it could be so much worse, and that I still have so much life to live and so many things I want to do.

Having MS has helped me to really appreciate my life and the people in it. Blessings do come in crazy disguises. I will never give up!!

Thank You
by: Allyson P

Thank you all for your kind words. I continue to feel blessed every day although I have challenges. It's nice to have people to relate to even though I'm sad to know I'm not the only person struggling with this disease. We can do great things in this life as long as we don't hold ourselves back.

12 Hours
by: Allison Liccardi

I have had Multiple Sclerosis for three years and although not long a go, the 'grieving' process took me all three years and then some... I still battle with it at least once a month, however, it beats the disassociating and intrusive agonizing thoughts that I had succumbed to at first.

I am also 26 and I finally realized, after intensive therapy, that we MAYBE use up 12 hours a day and I had been wasting every last minute on panic and worry. I finally turned worry of death into a hunger for life and although never grateful for this disease, it makes sense...

I am more grateful for my life and every morning that I wake up and can see and feel my legs I send praises to Jesus. I do notice how beautiful the clouds are and how relaxing a walk is. I am seeing things as if I am a young child, how pathetic and self-centered I had been.

I am an adult and get soooo excited over a sunset; it opens your eyes and shows you how lucky you are to breathe... Thank goodness you are already at that point b/c I just got there.

God bless you

Bravo - Great Story!
by: Akrista

Hi Allison,
What a great story! It takes some MSers many months and sometimes years to get where you are. Not saying that you won't have challenges in the future - you will. The fact that you realize that is half the battle with a condition like MS.

I'm so glad you have a support system already in place. That really does make living with MS easier They will never know exactly what it feels like to have MS. But they will always be there to help you when you need them.

Again, bravo!!
