Multiple Sclerosis
by Diana Neutze
(New Zealand)
For over forty years I have been dueling with a redoubtable opponent. If I have maintained equilibrium, it is through fancy footwork and unwavering attention.
But today, he slipped in under my guard. I lost footing and my concentration became distracted. I sprawled lengthwise entirely at his mercy.
But the defeat is not of today alone; for months, years, I have been undermined and only now, the skin has cracked open to expose a gaping wound.
Love the imagery, Diana! I know that Cir can relate to this poem because he loves boxing. The duel, whether it's with swords, boxing, or a disease like MS, can produce the same results in a ring in a split second or in ones life over a longer period of time.
Thanks for a great poem!

So True by: Jane D.
This beautifully expresses what has just happened to me too after many years. MS is so sneaky and does seem to want to have the last word. Please come here often. It's nice to know that somewhere in New Zealand there's a woman who understands completely.
