Jane's Continuing Saga Part 4-Second Part
Jane, you should have no problem getting a power wheelchair. If you do, contact the National MS Society and see if they have an MS Loan Closet in your city.
That is how Cir got his electric scooter. He isn't eligible for an electronic wheelchair yet because he has very good upper body strength. His therapists didn't want to use Medicare until he actually needed one.
But he was eligible for the scooter because of leg weakness. You are such a brave woman to have gone this long without getting one. You need to have this for your safety and peace of mind.
Cir's case manager told him in no uncertain terms was he to fall when his home health aide is here. And if he does fall, he needs to contact her right away because he may need more assistance.
His PT (physical therapists) have also said that if a mobility aide did not help keep him from falling, then he needed to get something with more stability.
Just think of it this way - Falling is not an option. If you are too weak to walk the distance, use whatever you need to help keep you safe.
Don't feel bad at all, for asking for and when you get one, using a chair - you are "entitled".
