Communicating with others with MS

Is there a site where I can provide my email address and communicate with others? I was diagnosed with M.S. 5 years ago at the age of 39 after a very active and physical lifestyle. I feel like I will be alone for the rest of my life.

I have been trying to meet someone on dating sites but when I tell them I have M.S. the communication stops. One even ask for money. Is there a site where I can begin communicating with those wishing to be or have a friend with M.S. that is really, really one where people want to have a friend?

Possible Chat at The Link
by: Akrista

Hi there,
I definitely know there is a need for a place to meet other who have MS. Cir and I will have been married for 33 years come this May 2015. He has expressed many times that he is so glad to have me in his life.

I knew he had something wrong shortly after we met. We were both in our early 20s and I can't imagine not having him in my life, with or without MS.

We have a membership site called The Link and it has discussion boards. It was re-done a few years ago so that the only way I can put chat rooms and groups is to make it a paid site. The cost would be minimal, with options for paying monthly, quarterly, 6 months, or yearly. The monthly cost would be about $2.95 and others discounted accordingly.

I've been toying with the idea for quite awhile. It would be a safe place where members could meet and start their own groups. They would also be able to chat and message one another. Messaging is available now, by contacting a member on their page.

Discussion boards are also available, though not much privacy. I will probably need to do a poll to see if this is something members would be willing to pay for. Here's the link to The Link in the meanwhile.

We have over 100 members at this point and I'm nearing the point where I WILL need to make it a paying site anyway, if I want to keep it active. You are welcome to join, if you like. And I would welcome your thoughts about what I suggested earlier.

We also have a Facebook page where there are a few active members.

The National MS Society has local chapters where MSers often get together in various support groups each month. That is another thing you may want to try. Just look them up and call them and become a member.

They will then send you a monthly newsletter with current events and seminars where you can meet others and learn how to deal with your MS, as well.

There are a few other places - Jooley's Joint (I think they still have an active chat room) and The MS Connection - the NMSS social board.

Hope this helps and that others will chime in as well.

Take care,
Akrista

Dear Friends,

"Life in Spite of MS is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We're also part of the Ebay Partner Network, another affiliate program."

We'd also like you to know it doesn't cost one cent more  when you click through the links here on our blog. Not one single penny. And we will make a little extra cash when you do click through. We'll be ever so appreciative. You also have our word that we'll only link to things that we would use ourselves, (or wish we could have or use).

Sincerely,

Cir & Akrista
